Ukraine War Helps Dutch Drone Radar Firm Improve Systems
Robin Radar, a Dutch company that makes radar systems for drone detection, says it gained key experience in developing its technology while working with Ukraine in its war against Russia.
The company has deployed its systems in Ukraine since 2023, where they have helped detect attacks by Iranian-designed Shahed drones used by Russia and their Russian variant, the Geran.
Company executives quoted by Business Insider said intensive deployment on the Ukrainian battlefield had allowed the radars to significantly improve their ability to detect larger drones at longer ranges.
Ukrainian commanders provided the company with regular feedback, while dedicated teams collected data directly from combat operations. The result was upgraded systems that are now being used by US allies in the Middle East.
The company said Iran’s drone tactics closely resemble Russia’s strategy in Ukraine. Since the outbreak of the conflict involving Iran, the US and Israel, the firm has seen a surge of interest in its technology from Gulf countries.
The Dutch company also said the United States was likely to lag behind Europe in building defenses against drones.
