Ukraine Seizes Hitler Postcards at Border
Ukrainian customs officials said on social media that they had seized five old postcards depicting Adolf Hitler at the border. The incident occurred on 9 May at the Chop customs post during checks on passengers traveling by train from Ukraine to Prague.
The postcards, dating from the 1930s, were found by customs officers in a sealed envelope hidden among the personal belongings of a 53-year-old Kyiv resident. Customs officials said the woman had neither declared them in her customs declaration nor informed officers of their existence.
Ukrainian authorities said the export of printed materials published before 1945 is subject to strict rules and requires a special certificate. The traveler did not have one.
Proceedings were therefore initiated against the woman for breaching customs regulations. The postcards have been seized, and their fate will be determined after an expert assessment establishes whether they have historical, cultural or collector value.
