Former Polish Justice Minister Ziobro Leaves Hungary for US

Former Polish Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro, who has been in Hungary since last year after receiving asylum from Viktor Orban’s government, has moved to the United States, according to Politico. The move was reportedly made possible by a visa issued under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Ziobro faces an investigation in Poland over the alleged misuse of public funds and the use of Pegasus spyware against political opponents. Polish authorities have sought his extradition, but the former minister denies all allegations and says he is the target of a political vendetta by Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government.

He was granted asylum by Orban’s government, but the situation began to change after Peter Magyar became Hungary’s new prime minister and signalled a willingness to begin extradition proceedings.

The Polish Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that it had no official information about Ziobro’s current whereabouts, but that his passport had been withdrawn.
