Starmer Vows to Prove Doubters Wrong After Election Rout

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer moved to stem growing discontent within the Labour Party on Monday after a heavy defeat in local elections in which the party recorded its worst performance in more than 30 years, triggering internal criticism and open doubts about his leadership.

"I know that people are frustrated by the state of Britain. Frustrated by politics, and some people are frustrated with me. I know I have my doubters and I know I need to prove them wrong. And I will", Starmer said, dismissing scenarios that could plunge Britain into further political instability.

Starmer stressed that the country needed more significant reforms and that "incremental change won't cut it". He said Britain was facing the consequences of years of economic stagnation, growing social problems and a loss of public confidence in politics.

Discontent within the party has intensified after a former deputy prime minister hinted at standing for the leadership if Starmer does not set a more radical direction for the government.

The remarks come less than a year after Starmer led Labour to one of the largest parliamentary majorities in modern British history, having promised voters economic growth, a reduction in illegal migration and improvements to the National Health Service.
