Pentagon Says Iran War Has Cost US $29bn

The Pentagon said on Tuesday that the war against Iran had already cost the United States $29bn. The figure marks an increase of $4bn compared with the estimate released at the end of April.

On 29 April, the Pentagon estimated that the military conflict had cost the United States $25bn. According to Defense Department officials, the updated total includes spending on repairs and replacement equipment as well as operational costs.

The figures were presented by Jules Hurst, the acting Pentagon comptroller, during a congressional hearing alongside Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Cain.

“The Joint Staff team and the comptroller’s team are constantly reviewing this estimate”, Hurst said during the hearing.

It remains unclear how the Pentagon arrived at the $29bn figure. It was reported in March that President Donald Trump’s administration had estimated the cost of the first six days of the war at at least $11.3bn.
