EU Joins Agreement on Special Tribunal for Russian Aggression
The European Union has taken a further step toward establishing a special tribunal for Russian aggression against Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced that Brussels has officially notified the Council of Europe of its intention to join the agreement on the tribunal's establishment, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
In early May, the EU Council approved a decision to sign the extended agreement, which is designed to create a legal framework for the investigation and prosecution of the crime of aggression.
Sybiha said the aim was to bring to justice the leadership of the aggressor state and other responsible actors.
Kyiv has long advocated the creation of a special tribunal to address the responsibility of Russia's top officials for the war in Ukraine.
