US Senate Rejects Bid to Limit Trump's Powers on Iran
The US Senate has again rejected a Democratic effort to restrict President Donald Trump from using additional military force against Iran, CBS News reports.
The resolution failed narrowly by 49 votes to 50, with three Republican senators breaking ranks to support it, including Lisa Murkowski, who had voted differently on previous occasions.
Democrats invoked the War Powers Act of 1973, which requires the president to obtain congressional approval for a prolonged military deployment. They argue that despite the ceasefire, the conflict with Iran is effectively continuing and that the administration is misrepresenting it as an end to hostilities.
Republicans counter that hostilities ended with the ceasefire of 7 April and that the president has sufficient authority under the Constitution to act.
