China Warns EU Over Planned Investment Restrictions
China has sharply criticized planned European Union measures to restrict Chinese investment in strategic sectors.
Qu Xun, a trade representative at the Chinese embassy in Spain, said Beijing was “very disappointed” by the proposed rules and warned that similar action could prompt China to “close its door” to European companies.
The European Parliament is preparing new rules to tighten ownership controls in critical technologies and impose stricter conditions on cybersecurity suppliers. Beijing is pressing for several provisions to be relaxed, especially those defining “high-risk” suppliers.
European and US companies have meanwhile long complained about restricted market access in China and state subsidies for Chinese firms.
