Polish MEP Barred From UK Ahead of Tommy Robinson Rally
Polish MEP Dominik Tarczynski, a member of the Law and Justice (PiS) party, has been barred from entering the UK, Notes from Poland reported. He had been due to attend and speak at a rally in London this weekend organized by right-wing activist Tommy Robinson.
The British Home Office revoked Tarczynski’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA). In its notice, the department said his presence in the UK was “not considered conducive to the public good” and that he could not appeal the decision.
Tarczynski reacted angrily, writing on X: “This is what communism looks like in the 21st century.” He added: “Starmer will be sued by me. Not the government, not the Home Office, but Starmer personally.”
Former British prime minister Liz Truss defended him and called the ban “shocking”. She noted that Tarczynski belongs to the European Conservatives and Reformists Group in the European Parliament, which also included the British Conservatives before Brexit.
The decision also drew reactions in Poland. Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said Tarczynski’s remarks had confirmed that he was an “unhinged extremist”. He added that the MEP was more dangerous to Poland than to the UK.
