UK Health Secretary Resigns as Pressure Mounts on Starmer
Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced his resignation from the government on Thursday, citing a loss of confidence in Prime Minister Keir Starmer's leadership.
Streeting made his decision public in a letter posted on X, writing that it is "now clear" that Starmer will not lead the Labour Party into the next general election.
The outgoing minister said both Labour MPs and the unions want the debate about the party's future to become a "battle of ideas, not personalities or petty factionalism".
"It needs to be broad, and it needs the best possible field of candidates", Streeting said, adding that he supports such an approach and hopes the prime minister will allow it.
The resignation increases pressure on Starmer, who has faced mounting criticism within his own party in recent days.
