Greenland Holds Talks with Trump Envoy
Following negotiations with the United States, Greenland’s government said discussions on the future of the Arctic island had made some progress, while firmly rejecting any possibility of selling the territory to Washington.
US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Jeff Landry, arrived in Nuuk and held talks with Prime Minister Jens Frederik Nielsen and Foreign Minister Mute Egede.
Greenlandic officials stressed that the island is not for sale and will remain under Greenlandic control. According to Nielsen, the aim of the negotiations is to find a solution acceptable to all parties without threats of annexation or external control.
Trump has long advocated a stronger US influence in Greenland, which he considers strategically important. The United States wants to expand its military presence on the island and include it in the planned Golden Dome defense system.
