Pope Leo XIV canonized 15-year-old Carlo Acutis
On Sunday, September 7, 2025, Pope Leo XIV canonized Carlo Acutis, a 15-year-old Italian Roman Catholic layman who died of leukemia in 2006. Carlo Acutis is the first saint of the millennial generation, i.e., those born between 1981 and 1996. The solemn canonization took place in St. Peter's Square with tens of thousands of faithful in attendance.
Carlo Acutis was known as “God's influencer,” spreading the Catholic faith via the internet and documenting Eucharistic miracles from around the world.
He grew up in Milan, prayed the rosary, attended Mass regularly, and devoted himself to creating websites with spiritual content. His life story inspires many young people and symbolizes the connection between faith and modern technology.
Along with him, Leo XIV also canonized Italian activist Piero Giorgio Frassati.
