Europe's eastern flank is being strengthened, with Denmark and Germany supporting the NATO mission
The alliance will send an “Eastern Watch” mission to strengthen the defense of Europe's eastern flank, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on Friday. He added that Russia's recklessness in the air was becoming increasingly apparent.
The Eastern Watch will include a range of assets from allies, including Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and others.
The incident, which has raised security concerns in the region, occurred on Tuesday night during a large-scale Russian air strike on western Ukraine.
Polish radar systems detected several dozen objects, some of which were shot down as potential threats. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced that the UN Security Council would hold a special meeting on the issue as early as Friday evening.
