Trump sues New York Times and Penguin, demands fifteen billion
US President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit in Florida on Monday against the New York Times, four of its journalists, and the publisher Penguin Random House. He is seeking $15 billion for alleged defamation and damage to his reputation.
The lawsuit refers to a series of articles in the NYT, including an editorial published before the 2024 elections that questioned Trump's ability to lead the country.
It also mentions a book published last year by Penguin Random House entitled Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father's Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success. According to the complaint, the publications are “malicious, full of distortions and fabrications.”
Trump's lawyers argue that the articles and the book damaged both his personal and business reputation, causing “massive economic damage.” They also claim that the stock value of his company, Trump Media and Technology Group, has fallen as a result of the defamation.
The lawsuit comes shortly after Trump threatened similar action against the NYT over an article about his alleged donation to Jeffrey Epstein. However, this is not the first time Trump has taken such action against the media. He has also sued the Wall Street Journal and CBS.
