Kimmel should have been fired long ago; he has no talent, Trump said
On Thursday, US President Donald Trump praised ABC's decision to take Jimmy Kimmel Live off the air.
ABC, which is part of the Walt Disney Company, announced on Wednesday that it would cancel the show after Kimmel suggested in his monologue that conservatives would use the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk for political purposes.
“Jimmy Kimmel was fired primarily because he had poor ratings — and on top of that, he said something terrible about a great man named Charlie Kirk,” Trump said at a press conference with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Kirk, a close ally of Trump, was shot dead by a sniper on a university campus in Utah on September 10. Prosecutors announced this week that they would seek the death penalty for the alleged perpetrator.
“Jimmy Kimmel is not a talented person. He had very poor ratings, and he should have been fired a long time ago. Whether you call that free speech or not, the reality is that he was fired for lack of talent,” Trump added.
