The Trump administration calls for tougher action against illegal immigrants

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has called on California, New York, and Illinois to cooperate in the deportation of illegal immigrants who have served their sentences for criminal offenses.

According to the department, these so-called “sanctuary states” refuse to notify ICE about the release of convicted foreigners, thereby preventing their immediate transfer to detention centers.

California did not respond to the request, while New York and Illinois rejected it outright. Deputy Secretary Tricia McLaughlin criticized that such measures, combined with cashless bail, allow dangerous individuals to return to society.

The DHS warned that it would involve the Department of Justice if the states did not comply. According to the authorities, more than 400,000 illegal immigrants have already been arrested, 70 percent of whom had previous convictions.
