Arakchi: The West must choose between cooperation and confrontation

Iran insists that diplomacy is the only way to resolve the nuclear dispute with the West. Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi said this on state television on Monday, adding that the West must choose between “cooperation or confrontation.”

The UK, France, and Germany have set in motion a process that could lead to the resumption of UN sanctions as early as the end of September. According to European diplomats, Iran has a few more days to meet the conditions—access for inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), clarification of questions about enriched uranium, and resumption of dialogue with the US.

Arakchi met with IAEA chief Rafael Grossi in New York and is also expected to negotiate with European partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

According to European Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas, it is “difficult to say” whether Tehran and the E3 will agree on lifting sanctions, and time is running out.
