Israeli minister: American illusions in Gaza will end in tears

Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has criticized the US plan for the Gaza Strip, which is also supported by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a detailed statement on Platform X, he warned against a return to old concepts such as the Palestinian Authority, foreign police training, or cooperation with Qatar. In his view, this is a historically missed opportunity to finally break away from the failed Oslo Accords.

Smotrich accused the government of trading concrete military successes for a diplomatic signal. He emphasized that the same scenario that had led to wars in the past was repeating itself and that Israel would face the same fate if it entrusted its security to foreigners once again.

He ended his criticism with the skeptical remark that the current celebrations were absurd and that the situation could end in tears.
