Ukrainian suspected of involvement in Nord Stream attack remains in custody, Polish court rules

A Polish court has ordered the pretrial detention of Ukrainian national Volodymyr Z., whom Germany suspects of involvement in the explosions on the Nord Stream gas pipeline in 2022. The diver was arrested near Warsaw on the basis of a European arrest warrant.

According to German authorities, he is believed to have been part of a group that rented a boat in Rostock and then attached explosive devices to the pipeline near the Danish island of Bornholm. The explosions, which both the West and Russia considered sabotage, had a significant impact on Europe's energy security.

Ukraine denies any involvement. Lawyer Tymoteusz Paprocki announced that he would appeal the court's decision.

Another Ukrainian is also involved in the case – Serhii K., who was arrested in Italy in August. He is currently fighting his extradition to Germany.
