A defeat for Ukraine could provoke China to attack, warns Taiwan
During a security forum in Warsaw, Taiwanese officer Hsieh Jih-sheng warned that a possible defeat of Ukraine could encourage China to take more aggressive action against Taiwan. He said Taiwan was closely following the developments of the war and hoped for a victory for Kyiv, which could deter Beijing from further escalation.
Hsieh also pointed out the danger of a geopolitical two-front crisis if China were to attack Taiwan at the same time as a Russian offensive in Ukraine.
Taipei is trying to learn lessons from the conflict in Ukraine and improve its own defense. China reacted angrily and sharply criticized Taiwan's participation in the forum.
Hsieh also mentioned Chinese activities in the so-called “gray zone” – from cyberattacks to acts of sabotage – and emphasized that Taiwan has extensive experience in this area that it can share with Europe.
