Pope Leo XIV presents his first apostolic document, “Dilexi te”

Pope Leo XIV will publish his first major document, entitled “Dilexi te” (“He loved you”), on October 9.

This apostolic letter focuses on the needs of the poor worldwide and signals continuity with the legacy of the late Pope Francis, whose last document was entitled “Dilexit nos” (“He loved us”).

The text, which Pope Leo XIV completed after Francis' death, was intended to be his final report on caring for marginalized people. The pope formally signed it on Saturday.

Pope Francis was known for his simple lifestyle, his closeness to the homeless, and his criticism of global economic systems that neglect the most vulnerable. Leo XIV is expected to emphasize social justice and compassion in the document, continuing the themes that characterized his predecessor's pontificate.
