Robbie Williams concert in Istanbul canceled due to security concerns
Singer Robbie Williams had to cancel his concert in Istanbul scheduled for October 7, Sky News reports.
Local authorities decided to cancel the concert for security reasons, as he was labeled a “Zionist” on social media. This is related to his family connections—his wife Ayda Field has a Turkish-Muslim father and a Jewish-American mother.
The concert was supposed to be the highlight of a world tour that had attracted around 1.2 million fans in various European cities throughout the year. Williams expressed his sincere regret about the cancellation of this concert on social media, emphasizing that the safety of his fans was his top priority.
Instead of the Istanbul show, he will give a smaller concert at Camden Dingwalls club in London, where he will also perform songs from his upcoming album Britpop.
In recent days, pro-Palestinian demonstrations have taken place in Istanbul and other Turkish cities, contributing to local authorities' fears of possible unrest during the concert.
