Trump wants cheaper beef – cattle farmers sound the alarm

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that American cattle farmers were benefiting from the tariffs he had imposed on beef imports. At the same time, however, he called on them to lower prices for consumers. In a post on Truth Social, Trump emphasized that their success was a result of the 50 percent tariff on Brazilian beef.

However, his recent considerations to import beef from Argentina in order to lower record-high prices for consumers have been met with discontent among American ranchers.

They fear a weakening of domestic producers, especially after they have already lost soybean contracts in China to Argentina. Economic experts point out that a decline in beef prices would not immediately lead to an increase in supply and could disrupt the market.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture plans to present a plan to restock cattle herds.
