Kallas: EU enlargement by 2030 is a realistic goal
Montenegro has announced that it will conclude all accession negotiations with the EU by the end of 2026 in response to the European Commission's positive report. Deputy Prime Minister Filip Ivanović confirmed at the Euronews conference in Brussels the goal of becoming the 28th member state of the Union by 2028.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the Commission's report and called on the European Union to take decisive steps to remove obstacles on the path of accession candidates. He stressed that Ukraine needs full membership and equal treatment, and expressed confidence that EU accession could take place before 2030.
Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kosová highlighted Ukraine's progress on key reforms, but warned that the country must maintain the pace of reform and focus more on the fight against corruption.
EU Foreign Affairs Representative Kaja Kallas described EU enlargement by 2030 as a realistic goal and said that the admission of new members was in the Union's strategic interest.
