Trump: government paralysis hurts stock market and Republican politicians

United States President Donald Trump has declared that government paralysis negatively affected the results of the Virginia, New York and New Jersey elections held on Tuesday.

Government paralysis, or "shutdown," occurs when Congress fails to pass budget bills and federal agencies do not have the funds to operate. After meeting with Republican lawmakers at the White House, Trump claimed the shutdown had a bigger impact on the Republican Party than he initially expected.

The paralysis, he said, is hitting financial markets, airlines and the social assistance program. Trump is calling for an end to the so-called "filibuster" in the Senate so that a simple majority is enough to pass bills.
