Biden harshly criticizes Trump: He has destroyed the White House and democracy

Former US President Joe Biden harshly criticised Donald Trump during a Democratic Party gala in Nebraska. He called Trump's conversion of the East Wing of the White House into a lavish ballroom "the ultimate symbol of his presidency" and compared it to destroying the very foundations of democracy, CNN reports.

According to Biden, Trump has damaged the Constitution, the rule of law and trust in institutions. He also commented ironically on Trump's claim of a "golden era", saying that "the only gold is what you hang over your mantelpiece".

Biden also touched on healthcare, mentioning his recent treatment for prostate cancer and highlighting the importance of publicly funded healthcare.

He criticised Republicans for trying to cut health spending at a time when the country is facing the longest shutdown in history.

He thinks the government is not working because of Republicans' unwillingness to extend health insurance subsidies. "You work for us, not the other way around," he told Trump.
