Zelensky announces reorganization in state energy sector due to corruption
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a reorganisation and personnel changes in the management of state-owned energy companies in response to a major corruption scandal. Ukrainian anti-corruption authorities revealed that members of an organised group had built a network influencing strategic state enterprises, including Enerhoatom, Unian reports.
Officials at the highest levels within the energy sector were also implicated in the bribery case, which amounted to around a hundred million dollars.
Justice Minister Herman Halushchenko and Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk resigned in the wake of the scandal. According to the media, the key suspect is the president's former business partner Timur Mindich. On the X network, Zelensky announced a full audit of financial activities and a change of company management.
The conditions for the appointment of a new supervisory board of Enerhoatom, the operator of Ukraine's nuclear power plants, are due to emerge within a week. The president also confirmed that other major state-owned enterprises, including Naftohaz and Ukrhydroenergo, are also facing personnel changes.
Zelensky ordered the government to communicate intensively with law enforcement and anti-corruption authorities. He stressed that full transparency and integrity remain a priority in the management of Ukraine's energy sector.
