US President Donald Trump on Sunday called on his GOP colleagues in Congress to vote on releasing files related to the case of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social network that Republicans should vote to release Justice Department documents in the Epstein case. Earlier, however, he referred to the release of the files as Democratic propaganda.
„And it is time to move on from this Democratic hoax staged by radical left lunatics to distract from the great success of the Republican Party, including our recent victory in the Democratic ‚shutdown’,” the U.S. president wrote.
Although Trump and Epstein were photographed together decades ago, the president has said the two fell out before Epstein was convicted.
Emails released last week by a House committee showed that the disgraced financier believed Trump „knew about the girls,” although it was unclear what that phrase meant.
Republican House of Representatives chief Mike Johnson previously said the vote should end suspicions of a possible Trump-Epstein connection.
