Russian attack killed nine people and damaged key infrastructure in Ukraine

Russia's overnight attack on Ukraine left nine people dead and damaged energy and transport infrastructure, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. Moscow used more than 470 drones and nearly 50 missiles.

Zelensky stressed that such an attack on civilian life shows insufficient pressure on Russia and reiterated his call on the West to step up sanctions and supply air defences.

Russian aggression this time had an impact beyond Ukraine. The Romanian Ministry of Defence reported that a drone had violated its airspace during the attack. In response, German Eurofighters and Romanian F-16s were dispatched, while warnings were sounded to residents in south-eastern districts.

Although the drone is not believed to have landed on Romanian territory, the incident has reinforced fears of escalation.

Similarly, Poland responded with increased vigilance, closing two airports and deploying aircraft as a precaution.
