Poland deploys thousands of troops to protect critical infrastructure, warns of further attacks

Poland will deploy up to ten thousand soldiers to protect critical infrastructure, including railways, after the weekend explosion on the railway line between Warsaw and Lublin. Warsaw blames Moscow for the incident.

The blast also hit a section used to transport weapons to Ukraine. Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the act an "unprecedented sabotage attack" in which two Ukrainian perpetrators working with Russian intelligence were identified. They fled to Belarus.

Defence Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz reported that the army was checking 120 kilometres of track towards the Ukrainian border. They expect an increased risk of further attacks over the Christmas period.

The Kremlin denies responsibility. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized the Polish accusations as part of Russophobia. But Poland insists it is tracking down the perpetrators, regardless of their supporters.
