Hungarian defence minister: Ukraine has lost militarily, EU is only prolonging the war

Hungarian Defence Minister Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky, according to Jevropejska Pravda, said that Ukraine had lost the war militarily. He stated this in the context of the ongoing conflict, which he believes also threatens Hungary due to a possible escalation.

He stressed that peace can only be achieved through diplomatic means and criticised the EU for trying to prolong the war. He said that daily casualties on the front line amounted to 1 000 soldiers, a quarter of whom were dying.

He also pointed to the impact of the collapsing Ukrainian agricultural sector on the Hungarian economy.

The minister reiterated that Hungary remains on the side of peace. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán took a similar stance, advocating an end to the conflict during his visit to Moscow and expressing interest in stable energy supplies.

At the same time, he suggested that Ukraine should play the role of a neutral buffer state after the war.
