Trump: it would be 'smart' for Maduro to leave office
Donald Trump said at a press conference in Florida that it would be "smart" for Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to leave office and that the United States can either keep the seized oil from the tankers, sell it, or use it to replenish strategic reserves.
Trump's "pressure campaign" against Maduro includes an increased military presence in the region, more than two dozen attacks on ships allegedly carrying drugs that have killed at least 100 people.
In addition, he announced a "blockade of all sanctioned tankers entering and leaving Venezuela.
Trump also lashed out at Colombian President Gustavo Petro, whom he described as a "very bad man" and accused him of "making cocaine in Colombia and sending it to the US" in response to Petro's criticism of Washington's actions toward Venezuela.
Maduro, without directly mentioning Trump, responded by saying that every leader should attend to the internal affairs of his own country, adding that he would tell Trump the next time he called.
