Rodríguez's call to the US: Venezuela wants peace and dialogue

The acting President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, releases a statement urging the United States to cooperate. Her statement comes shortly after the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife by US special forces.

"Our country seeks a life free of external threats. We believe that global peace is built by first securing peace within each nation," she stressed, recalling Venezuela's commitment to peace and vision of balanced relations with the United States and other countries in the region.

Rodríguez called on the U.S. government to cooperate in an agenda of development and sustainable coexistence in accordance with international law. President Donald Trump, the Venezuelan people and the entire region, she said, deserve dialogue, not war.

"This has always been President Nicolás Maduro's message and it is now the message of all of Venezuela," she said.

Rodríguez, who took over the leadership of the country after Maduro's arrest, ended her statement with a call for unity and a vision of Venezuela as a peaceful and sovereign country.
