The Union ordered X to store data for indecent images of children

The European Commission has ordered Elon Musk's company X to retain all internal documents related to the operation of its artificial intelligence chatbot Grok until the end of 2026. The measure follows an ongoing investigation into compliance with EU rules.

Dozens of people have complained that Grok generated sexualized images of famous faces, adult women, and minors.

Commission spokesman Thomas Regnier noted that this is an extension of an existing data retention order relating to algorithms and the dissemination of illegal content. According to him, this does not mean the start of a new formal investigation under the Digital Services Act, but the Commission wants to have access to the documents if necessary.

Criticism has also been voiced in Sweden in recent days. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described images created using Grok as "a form of sexual violence" and unacceptable. He was responding to a case in which someone used the chatbot to attack the deputy prime minister.

Concerns were also expressed by the British non-profit organization Internet Watch Foundation, which said it had found sexualized images of children aged 11 to 13 apparently created using Grok. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on X to take immediate action.

Platform X has declared that it is removing illegal content and blocking the accounts of violators.
