A severe storm left 380,000 households in France without power.
A powerful storm named Goretti hit northern France, leaving behind considerable damage – approximately 380,000 households were left without electricity. The regions of northern Normandy, Brittany, Picardy, and the areas around Paris were the most affected, according to France24.
In some places, winds reached extreme speeds of up to 213 km/h, uprooting dozens of trees, some of which fell on residential buildings. No injuries have been reported.
Meteorologists also issued warnings of adverse weather in Britain, where winds of up to 160 km/h and snowfall were expected, especially in central and northern England.
British Rail warned of possible disruptions and advised passengers to stay at home.
Europe has been hit by a wave of extreme weather that has claimed at least eight lives so far, the latest known victim being a man from Albania who was found in a flooded area. According to the authorities, the situation is still developing.
