According to Trump, Greenland under US control would strengthen NATO
US President Donald Trump has declared that anything less than Greenland being "in the hands" of the United States is "unacceptable." He made the statement just hours before a White House meeting dedicated to this topic. According to him, Greenland is crucial to US national security and is to play an important role in the so-called Golden Dome project that Washington is building.
The president also called on the North Atlantic Alliance to take the lead in the process of "acquiring" Greenland. He claims that NATO would be significantly stronger and more effective if the island's territory were "in the hands of the United States."
Trump's comments come at a time when the foreign ministers of Denmark and Greenland are set to meet with US Vice President JD Vance at the White House.
Earlier in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron also responded to the issue, warning that any violation of the sovereignty of a European country and ally would have unprecedented consequences. According to Paris, Trump's statements on Greenland cannot be underestimated and Europe must take them seriously.
