Fico spoke with Merz. According to him, world leaders do not take the EU seriously

The head of the Slovak cabinet spoke on the phone with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. He outlined the content of the conversation and, on the topic of the Slovak economy, made sharp remarks about Slovak opposition leader Michal Šimečka.

On Monday evening, Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer) wrote on social media that the debate with the German leader concerned the serious international situation. He also mentioned his "long conversation" with US President Donald Trump and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

He met with them over the weekend, but the details are not yet known. Fico only confirmed that they discussed several international events. Specifically, he mentioned the war in Ukraine, and they also evaluated the European Union together.

"The US president clearly promotes the national interests of the US. If the EU acted in this way, we would be in a completely different place than we are now. World leaders do not take the EU entirely seriously, and we can attribute this to our nonsensical climate goals and suicidal migration policy," he explained.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen can therefore expect an open letter from him, which he plans to send on Tuesday. The Slovak Prime Minister will also bring it to the attention of all EU prime ministers and presidents.

He also expressed his expectation that Merz will visit Slovakia soon, as he promised: "We have a lot to talk about. Several hundred German companies operate in Slovakia, and our economy is particularly dependent on German economic development due to the huge concentration of car production. Only charlatans like the younger Šimečka can claim that our economy is dragging down European politics as a whole."
