Bloomberg: Italy to be founding member of ISF in Gaza
According to Bloomberg sources, the United States has asked Italy to become a founding member of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in the Gaza Strip. The proposal does not include the deployment of Italian troops, but rather a commitment to participate in the training of future Palestinian police units and to leverage Italy's political influence in the region.
The offer was reportedly presented by US diplomats to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, but no decision has yet been made. Neither side has yet confirmed whether Washington has actually approached Rome on this matter.
The initiative is part of US President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan for Gaza, which has faced delays and opposition from several countries.
Trump also proposed the creation of a Peace Council to oversee political transformation in Gaza. Italy, along with other countries, refused to sign the related charter because it was inconsistent with the constitution. Meanwhile, the United States continues to negotiate with other potential partners.
