Druzhba oil pipeline hub ablaze after overnight attack
The main pumping station at Kalejkino in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan, which ensures the operation of the Druzhba oil pipeline, was attacked during the night of 22 – 23 February. Videos circulating on Telegram showed a large blaze and high flames at the strategic facility.
According to Ukrayinska Pravda, regional authorities confirmed the strike on the industrial site but described it as a ‘small fire’ caused by debris from a drone. No casualties were reported and the situation was said to be under control.
The station is regarded as one of Russia’s key energy hubs, blending crude from several regions and securing its onward flow to Europe.
Any serious damage could affect Russia’s war economy, as oil and gas revenues account for a substantial share of Moscow’s budget.
The incident comes amid renewed tensions over oil transit through Ukraine, with Hungary and Slovakia pressing for supplies via Druzhba to resume.
