Australian Prime Minister evacuated after China-linked threat

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was evacuated from his official residence in Canberra for several hours late on Tuesday after authorities investigated a bomb threat.

The threatening email, originally written in Chinese, claimed that explosives had been placed around the residence and would be detonated if the Chinese dance group Shen Yun were to perform in Australia. The group is banned in China and has faced repeated threats.

After several hours of searching, police found nothing suspicious and stated that there was no ongoing risk. The source of the emails remains unknown.

Albanese said security could not be taken for granted and later thanked the police on social media for their professional response.
