NATO systems shoot down Iranian missile heading towards Turkey

On Wednesday, NATO air and missile defence systems shot down a ballistic missile launched from Iran that was heading towards Turkish airspace, according to Turkey’s Ministry of Defence. The ministry said the missile flew over Syria and Iraq and was destroyed over the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

The ministry also said there were no casualties or injuries. However, Ankara stressed that it reserves the right to respond to any hostile actions directed against Turkey.

In its statement, it also warned all parties to refrain from actions that could further escalate the situation and deepen the conflict in the region. Turkey said it is closely monitoring developments and calling for a reduction in tensions.
