Iranian killed by US over alleged plot to assassinate Trump

The US military announced on Wednesday that it had killed an Iranian official who led the unit behind the alleged plot to assassinate President Donald Trump.

‘We tracked down and killed the leader of the unit that attempted to assassinate President Trump. Iran tried to kill the president, and Trump had the last laugh,’ Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said at a press conference.

He did not give a specific name but added that the operation was carried out on Tuesday.

In 2024, the US Department of Justice charged an Iranian man in connection with an alleged assassination plot that investigators say was ordered by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The target was Mr Trump, who was the US president‑elect at the time.
