Trafigura to acquire Venezuelan gold for US refineries

A Venezuelan state‑owned mining company has signed a contract worth several million dollars to sell up to 1,000 kilograms of dore gold bars to commodities trader Trafigura for US markets, Axios reported on Wednesday, citing two sources familiar with the agreement.

The agreement requires the Venezuelan mining company Minerven to supply Trafigura with 650 to 1,000 kilograms of dore gold bars. In return, Trafigura will deliver the gold to US refineries under a separate agreement with the US government.

As the sources noted, US Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, who arrived in Venezuela on Wednesday, helped broker the gold deal.
