Oslo US Embassy blast could be terrorism

The US Embassy in Oslo was hit by a powerful explosion early on Sunday morning, causing minor material damage. According to Norwegian police, no one was injured. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the incident may have been a deliberate attack linked to the current security situation in the Middle East.

The explosion occurred at around 1 a.m. at the embassy compound in western Oslo. Police said it happened at the entrance to the consular section, which was slightly damaged. Eyewitnesses reported that thick smoke spread in the area after the blast.

Frode Larsen, head of the Oslo police investigation unit, said the authorities are assessing the incident in the context of the current security situation and are considering the possibility that the attack deliberately targeted the US embassy.

Police have not yet identified any suspects and are searching for one or more perpetrators. Investigators are examining several possibilities, including terrorism.

The Norwegian government has contacted representatives of the US embassy and described the incident as an unacceptable act. Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said the country considers the security of diplomatic missions to be of great importance.

Police also said no other explosive devices were found near the embassy.
