US accidentally bombed Iranian school, source claims

According to preliminary assessments by U.S. intelligence services, the United States may have been responsible for the bombing of a girls' school in the Iranian city of Minab on February 28 that killed at least 168 people, including dozens of children.

According to CBS News, a source familiar with the investigation said the school was likely not the intended target of the attack. Based on the available information, the strike may have resulted from a target-identification error, as the area had been considered part of an Iranian military facility due to outdated intelligence.

The school building was located near two facilities controlled by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The US military was operating in the region at the time, but according to sources in the area, Israeli forces were not active there.

The White House says the investigation is ongoing and that no conclusions have been reached.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has claimed, without presenting evidence, that Iran carried out the attack. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth did not repeat these claims, saying only that the incident is under investigation.
