Turkey: second Iranian missile shot down by air defence
NATO air defence in the eastern Mediterranean shot down a second ballistic missile launched from Iran that entered Turkish airspace. The Turkish Ministry of Defence reported this on Monday and warned it would take the necessary steps without hesitation.
This is the second Iranian ballistic missile to target NATO member Turkey in the past week.
The ministry said in a statement that parts of the missile fell in the south-eastern province of Gaziantep and that there were no casualties. It called on all parties to heed Ankara’s warnings.
The conflict in the Middle East began on February 28 after the US and Israel attacked Iran. In response, Iran launched counter-attacks on neighbouring countries where US military bases were located.
