Parliament calls on Orbán to block Ukraine's entry into the EU
The Hungarian National Assembly has adopted a resolution calling on Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's government to block Ukraine's entry into the European Union, according to the Echo24 portal. The document was supported by 142 MPs, with 28 against and four abstentions. This was announced by government spokesman Zoltán Kovács.
According to the resolution, Ukraine's accession to the EU could pose a security risk, as the country is at war and its membership could, according to the authors of the resolution, drag the Union into a conflict with Russia. MPs also pointed out the financial costs of supporting Kiev.
According to them, the European Union has already provided Ukraine with approximately €193 billion in aid and is considering further loans.
The document also warns that Ukraine's share of the EU's future seven-year budget could exceed €360 billion. Parliament calls on the Hungarian government to support peaceful solutions and to refuse to send money or weapons to Ukraine. At the same time, it should oppose efforts to transform the European Union into a military alliance.
