$5.6bn in munitions used in the first two days of war in Iran
The administration of US President Donald Trump has informed Congress that during the first two days of attacks against Iran the United States used ammunition worth about $5.6 billion. The figure appeared in a report submitted to a congressional committee.
Some lawmakers are concerned that the ongoing conflict could quickly deplete US military stocks at a time when the defence industry is already struggling with strong demand for weapons. Congress may soon decide on additional funding for military operations.
Trump met representatives of seven arms companies last week as the Pentagon works to replenish its stocks. The administration has not yet disclosed the total cost of the conflict, which the United States began on February 28 alongside Israel.
Democratic politicians are also demanding more information about the reasons for the war and its impact on the country’s defence capabilities. According to sources, the White House could ask Congress for additional funding of about $50 billion.
