Russia and the US discussed energy crisis
Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev said that during a meeting of the US–Russia working group on the economy in Florida he also discussed the deepening global energy crisis with his American counterparts.
According to him, the talks focused mainly on developments in energy markets and possible projects that could contribute to a gradual improvement in relations between Moscow and Washington.
The crisis is also linked to the situation in the Persian Gulf. After the closure of the Strait of Hormuz following the start of the joint war by Israel and the US against Iran, about 20 million barrels of oil per day were stranded, equal to roughly one fifth of global supply.
Dmitriev also claimed that several countries, particularly the United States, are beginning to realise the importance of Russian oil and gas for the stability of the global economy. He criticised the sanctions against Russia, which he described as ineffective.
US special envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that the delegations discussed several topics and agreed to continue their contacts.
