Russian-style drone found in Poland

A drone found in a lignite mine in western Poland is most likely one of the Russian military drones that entered Polish airspace last September. This was reported by the state news agency PAP, citing sources close to the ministry of defence.

Poland, a NATO member, has been on high alert for airspace violations since the incident on the night of 9–10 September, when more than 20 Russian drones entered the country.

The remains of some of them had previously been found in eastern Poland. However, according to available information, the discovery in the west of the country is the first such case.

Police said they were alerted to the unmanned aircraft after it was discovered in the village of Gałczyce, about 170 kilometres west of Warsaw, on the premises of a lignite mine. ‘It does not look like a civilian drone, but we do not yet have any information about its model,’ said Maciej Świecichowski, a police spokesman in Poznań.

According to state television TVP Info, citing its sources, the aircraft could be a Gerbera military drone. This type of unmanned aircraft is similar to the drones that, according to Polish authorities, entered the country’s airspace during the September incident.
